Walking With The Maasai

Submitted by Stuart on Wed, 12/23/2015 - 12:32
These images were taken during the 2015 Walking with the Maasai project (www.walkingwiththemaasai.com). This was a five week walk across a part of Kenya's Maasai lands that my Maasai friends Josphat Mako and Patrick Koyati and I did. Along the way we stayed in Maasai villages and spent as much time as possible with the Maasai learning what we can about their culture and contemporary lifestyles. It wasn't all about the Maasai though. By walking at a leisurely pace I gained a deeper understanding of the landscapes and wildlife of the region. We walked through communal lands and wildlife conservation areas. We spoke not just with the Maasai but also with conservationists, NGO's and tourism industry representatives. The result of this project is a book, Once We Were Lions (due out late 2016), which is about contemporary Maasai lifestyle and the wildlife of the land in which the Maasai live. There will also be a coffee table photo book (due out late 2016), a travelling photo exhibition and speaking tour (late 2016). All images here are available as high-quality framed or non-framed prints. Please see the Walking with the Maasai website for details (www.walkingwiththemaasai.com).
